Abstract Since the establishment of PipeChina in 2019, China’s oil and gas system reform has been substantially promoted, the natural gas industry policies have been further improved, and the development of China’s natural gas industry has entered a new stage. This paper analyzes China’s natural gas industry policy in 2020 by using the content analysis method, and summarizes that China’s natural gas industry policy in 2020 mainly includes: comprehensive follow-up and highlight key points; people-oriented and adjusting to changing circumstances; adapting to local conditions and accurate implementation. At the same time, under the background of China’s oil and gas system reform and the goals of achieving carbon neutrality and peaking carbon dioxide emissions, it is speculated that China’s natural gas industry policy will develop based on the following three aspects: (1) oil and gas system reform will remain an important policy issue; (2) the natural gas industry policy will further promote a fair and open market environment; (3) the natural gas industry policy will try its best to achieve the goals of carbon neutrality and peaking carbon dioxide emissions.
